Members of the Kernow branch of the League took part this week in the Cornish mid winter festival of Montol in the town of Pen Sans/Penzance.

Members of the branch played an active part in the proceedings of Montol, which is held annually between the 14th and 22nd December. The current festival is a revived version of the original Montol and has a long tradition in the town, but unfortunately faded out in the nineteenth century. On Montol Eve on 21st December a procession walked through Pen Sans to Lescudjack Hill Fort where dancing and music preceded the lighting of a bonfire. The revellers then returned to Pen Sans again for a street party in the town.

Among those members of the Kernow branch who took part or attended the festival were branch secretary Michael Chappell, branch treasurer Tony Leamon, the League's general secretary Rhisiart Tal-e-bot and many other ordinary members of the branch. Tony Leamon, who was one of the torch bearers in the Montol procession, said: "In addition to doing the regular campaigning work that we do so well as a branch, in 2010 the branch wants to also organise and take part in more social events based around our thriving Cornish culture and language.

"In 2010 we aim to increase our membership substantially and what better way to do this than to show people that as well as getting things done as a branch, we can also have a good time along the way." Links:
