What was one of the smaller branches of the Celtic League, Kernow, is now growing in size and recently held its AGM. Set out below is a report from Branch Secretary, Mike Chappell:
"At a very successful Kernow Branch - Celtic League AGM and Branch Meeting which occurred on Tuesday 24th April, 2007 at Murdoch House, Redruth, new faces appeared to become the new Branch Officers. Murdoch House is now available for meetings of the Kernow Branch at a peppercorn rent due to liaison between Branch Secretary, Mike Chappell and the owners, Redruth 2000.
The Branch continues to grow in size with more applications in the pipeline. At the AGM and in recognition of 41 years continuous membership, it was agreed to make Mr S. Harvey Lander, a retired businessman and Cornwall Councillor, an Honorary Life Member to be excused annual subscriptions from hereonin. Mr. Lander who is from Wadebridge, is to be presented with a special certificate on parchment in recognition of this achievement.
A new Branch Chair was elected in the form of Stannator Colin Murley, Jack Bolitho elected as Vice Chairman, Mike Chappell re-elected as Branch Secretary and Tony Leamon elected as Branch Treasurer. Jack Bolitho, who is aged but 18 years, and who is very active on the Cornish scene, was delighted and intends to bring a youthful input to the Branch. His Celtic Cornish music group 'All Folked Up' have made inroads into BBC Radio Cornwall in a determined campaign to bring Cornish music and language to an otherwise English Radio Channel which has drawn many complaints from across Cornwall in the past for not recognising Cornish culture. Jack campaigns hard to make Cornish music the mainstream in broadcasting.
In addition Jack has just returned from the Basque Country where he participated in the EFA Youth Conference along with Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, Kernow Branch Member, General Secretary of the Celtic League and now also of EFA(Y). The Branch congratulates Rhisiart on this achievement. Many congratulations were passed to member Conan Jenkin, who, along with other Mebyon Kernow members take up Councillorships on Truro City Council in May.
It is anticipated that many members will travel to the International AGM which is to be held in Cardiff later this year and excellent contacts have been made with the Cymraeg due to attendance at Dewi Sant this year."
