The Welsh Assembly government has responded to concerns expressed by the Celtic League (and other interest groups) about deficiencies in psychiatric care for young persons held at Parc Prison.

Assembly member, Edwina Hart, has told the League:

"The Bridgend Prison Health Partnership Board has recently forwarded a draft business case to officials within the Welsh Assembly Government for provision of Tier 2/3 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) into the Youth Offender Institute, Parc Prison and it is now under consideration."

However as the Celtic League have reported over the years problems at Parc prison are not a new phenomena. As long ago as 2002 the Celtic League accused the Prison Service of failing in its duty of care to inmates and at that time we specifically cited suicide rates at several Welsh prisons including Parc.

It is disturbing that after six years the provision of adequate psychiatric care is still not in place.
