Dear Chief Constable Barbara Wilding

A Distinct Welsh Police Uniform and Badge

I am writing to you to ask what your views are on the possibility of adopting the distinct Welsh police uniform and badge for your officers as pioneered by the North Wales Police Chief Constable, Richard Brunstrom.

At our AGM in Caerdydd/Cardiff in September 2007, the following resolution was passed unanimously:

The Celtic League supports the Chief Constable of North Wales Police, Richard Brunstrom, suggestion that the police units in Gwynedd wear their own distinct Welsh uniform and for his idea to be emulated throughout Wales.

At our AGM Celtic League delegates believed that Mr Brunstrom's idea was an excellent way to simultaneously reflect the distinct nature of the Welsh force and the culture of Wales. Since our AGM Mr Brunstrom's idea of a Welsh badge with Y Ddraig Goch/The Red Dragon flag on was approved by the Uniform and Equipment Committee and will be introduced onto new uniforms.

As Mr Brunstrom said on his blog:

I'm sure most of you will agree that the new badges look splendid, symbolic of the re-emergence of Wales as a true nation, of which we are proud.

The Celtic League fully agrees with Mr Brunstrom's opinion in this matter and for this reason I am writing to discern your own view. We are currently writing to all the Chief Constables of Wales to ask their views and if they would consider adopting the uniform and badge of the police officers of North Wales in the future. If you do not like the idea or cannot envisage your own force wearing a new uniform and badge we would be interested to know why.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely

Rhisiart Tal-e-bot"
