The Celtic League Sewcretary General Rhisiart Tal-e-bot has asked the Commission for Racial Equality in wales to carry out "a full investigation" into allegations that staff at a branch in North wales were asked not to speak Welsh.
"Reverend Aled Edwards Wales Commissioner CRE Wales 3rd Floor Capital Tower Greyfriars Road Cardiff CF10 3AG
Dear Reverend Aled Edwards
Thomas Cook, Bangor
I am writing to you as the General Secretary of the Celtic League to complain about the company language policy of the Thomas Cook Plc. in Wales and at its Bangor store specifically.
It has come to our attention that the Bangor store of Thomas Cook has asked its employees not to use the Welsh language while discussing work related matters. The Celtic League strongly opposes linguistic discrimination of this type in Wales and would like to know if the company policy of Thomas Cook, in relation to the language used by its staff members, is in breach of the Race Relations Act.
In addition to this we would like the Commission for Racial Equality in Wales to launch a full investigation into the affair, to ensure that existing and prospective Thomas Cook company employees are aware of their rights in the future.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely
Rhisiart Tal-e-bot General Secretary"
