If there was a Nobel Prize for pettiness it would surely go to the administration at Whitemoor Prison.
The Celtic League General Secretary arranged to have forwarded to the Prison a small cheque to assist Noel Maguire with phone charges so that he could keep us abreast of arrangements relating to his transfer. The Celtic League is one of a number of organisations that have supported his campaign to be repatriated to complete his sentence in Ireland.
The cheque has been returned because of a petty administrative technicality. The League have submitted it again and hopefully this time the Prison bureaucracy will be more accommodating (see below):
"Governor Steve Rodford HMP Whitemoor Longhill Road March, Cambs PE15 OPR
England
30/10/08
Dear Governor Steve Rodford
Noel Maguire
I am writing to you, because I have been informed that the post office cheque for twenty pounds has not been received by Noel Maguire, who is being held in HMS Whitemoor prison.
We understand that the post office cheque is being withheld because my address was not included on the envelope and so I am therefore writing to you to confirm who I am and my address, which can be found above.
We consequently look forward to hearing that Mr Maguire has received the post office cheque, now that you have received confirmation of my address.
Yours sincerely
Rhisiart Tal-e-bot General Secretary Celtic League
CC
Noel Maguire Bernard Moffatt, Director of Information, Celtic League Charles McLaughlin, Irish Freedom Committee"
