Celtic League General Secretary, Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, was elected President of a European political youth organisation last week.
The European Free Alliance Youth (EFAy), which held their General Assembly in Bilbao, Basque Country on 19 th April, elected Rhisiart Tal-e-bot who had already served for two years on the Bureau of the organisation representing the youth group of Mebyon Kernow.
The EFAy have 32 member organisations from the youth movements of nationalist political parties throughout Europe including UDB Jeunes (Brittany), Mebyon Kernow Bagas Yowynk ( Cornwall), Cymru X (Wales) and Young Scots for Independence (Scotland).
Rhisiart Tal-e-bot told Celtic News:
"The EFAy is able to provide a European platform for young like minded nationalists and regionalists to reach a political level that is often difficult to make contact with alone. Often nationalist or regionalist youth groups are fairly small in number and it is difficult for them to have any influence outside of their own nations or regions. However in being part of a collective group that share similar aims and ideology we can often draw attention to issues that would otherwise go unnoticed or remain isolated within the different states. The EFAy also offers a means by which small groups can work together with larger and more experienced organisations to share experiences and to learn from the work of other activists.
Activists from the youth movements of nationalist parties from the Celtic countries have always been involved in the EFAy and form an integral part of the movement as a whole."
It is hoped that Rhisiart Tal-e-bot elevation to this key position will ultimately increase the participation of youth groups from all the Celtic countries in EFAy.
