CELTIC LEAGUE - PRESS INFORMATION

20th ANIVERSARY OF MURDER BY FRENCH STATE

This week the French government jailed a number of Basques and Bretons for their involvement in alleged terrorist offences including the theft of explosives.

No doubt the message the French government want to send to the world is that like the US and UK they are 'tough on terrorists'.

However some of us have long memories as coincidentally the end of next week (July 10th) will see the 20th anniversary of a heinous act of terrorism in which France was directly complicit and which caused the death of a young environmental activist.

In an outrage that shook the world on July 10th 1985, the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior keeled over and sank in Auckland harbour, New Zealand, after two bombs ripped it apart around midnight. One crew member, Fernando Pereira, was dead. After an intensive investigation, the truth became inescapable - the French secret service were responsible and the French government had ordered the bombing.

Two French citizens were identified as being directly linked to the outrage and were detained by New Zealand Police. They eventually served just three years of a ten year sentence.

France eventually honoured these and others involved in the murder with medals.

The hypocrisy of the French government in actively sponsoring terrorism itself whilst pontificating against those against whom its justice system condemns should be lost on no one.

The French State has never honestly accepted its terrorist past and accepted unequivocally responsibility for the Greenpeace murder. The shadow of the murder of Fernando Pereira will forever tarnish the French justice system!
