NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE The Celtic League has asked the Isle of Man Minister for Economic Development for an update on press reports two months ago suggesting aircraft belonging to former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych had been transferred to a Manx-based company and registered with the Isle of Man Aircraft Registry (see below): ?The Minister for Economic Development Mr Laurence Skelly MHK Isle of Man Government Department of Economic Development Government Buildings Douglas Isle of Man 5th December 2014 Dear Minister, I refer to a report on the (Ukrainian) Euromaiden Press site (23/09/14) which refers to aircraft from that country transferred to the Isle of Man aircraft register. The story was reported briefly by the Isle of Man media two months ago. Link here informs: (voir le site) As you will see it made some fairly sweeping allegations. At the time the matter was publicised there were brief comments from both IOM Customs and Excise and the Aircraft Registry but since that time no further clarification appears to have been publicised? Link here informs: (voir le site) Has your Department enquired into this issue and if so what is the status of the three aircraft referred to? From a check of the register it would seem they are still registered here, is this correct? On a related point what checks and balances are in place when individuals/companies apply to register aircraft in the Isle of Man? Finally, what checks are made on the operations and utilisation of aircraft registered on the Isle of Man register? Yours sincerely J B Moffatt (Mr) Director of Information?
