Bill Malarkey's intervention over the absence of the option to place Manx as your nationality on the census form raises a number of issues. Bill is so angry he is going to raise it at the next meeting of Westminster Parish Council aka the House of Keys (link): (voir le site) and foremost is the good ship ?SS Manxman? sailing along with all the ships officers and crew in their bunks? The census takes place about as often as a General Election so you would think the great and the good lolling around in the House of Keys and in ?sleepy hollow? aka Legislative Council would get the option (or indeed demand the option) to cast their eye over such things.Bill who is a proud Manxman (the Islands full of them but not enough it seems to want independence from the Brits) is indignant he goes all over the world saying he?s Manx but he is carrying a British passport so that should have given him a clue about what the census bods might come up with. While it?s commendable to try and get the system changed next time you have to ask why no one amongst our political elite had the wit this time to chase it up. Are the apparatchiks beavering away across the Civil Service doing there own thing ? I think not.Someone has had to sign of the census form in its current form and I bet when/if we find out which Minister or MHKs were involved they to will assert they are proud Manxman ? they are not they are just hypocrites playing at ?parliament? when really the census has exposed them as a parish council of Westminster!Image: Westminster Parish Council building.BERNARD MOFFATTIssued by: The Manx branch of the Celtic LeagueTEL: 01624 877918 or 07624 49160923/04/16THE CELTIC LEAGUEThe Celtic League established in 1961 has branches in the six Celtic Countries including our own Mannin branch.
