NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE There will be another silent protest about the failure of former Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael to stand down from his position as MP for Orkney and Shetland in Kirkwall at 1pm today. Protesters plan to gather for 30 mins in a protest which will be silent. They have stressed it is non-Party political and anyone can attend. In another development sure to put pressure on the discredited MP a petition has been lodged at the Court of Session in Edinburgh in the name of four Islanders. The petition alleges that Mr Carmichael, Scotland's only remaining Lib Dem MP, breached Section 106 of the Representation of the People Act 1983, which outlaws false statements in relation to the personal character or conduct of a candidate. The monies to raise the action were raised online using crowdfunding. So far the fund raising effort has generated an astonishing £46,000 in four days. The target amount is £60,000 so over 75% has been achieved and the crowdfunder remains open for another 26 days. Meanwhile other possible obstacles facing Carmichael's bid to cling on to power include possible twin police and House of Commons. Meanwhile the Wings over Scotland website has queried why fellow Lib Dem MSP Tavish Scott waited so long after learning about Carmichael?s deceit to go public. ?Smeargate? looks set to run for some time yet!
