It?s not often our colleagues at Mec Vannin are astounded but the consultation document about red squirrels has really sparked them. However as the article on their Facebook site explains it?s not the squirrel issue so much as the list of parties consulted about possible plans to introduce it here that has earned their ire (link): (voir le site) a pertinent point why should the Chamber of Commerce exert the influence it does over government.I suppose to get an idea of how or what influence they have we would have to wade back through a list of retired politicians and senior Civil servants and see how many ended up on the boards of or working as consultants for Chamber associates.Maybe somebody could do a four year PhD on it?Seriously I think its past time we had a serious campaign about the leverage this ?select club? seems to exert and the almost hypnotic influence that they seem to be able to wield over successive governments.Ironic really that it?s the extinction of the red squirrel that should highlight this as if anything deserves to become extinct its this ?business club? founded on the twin principles of self interest and greed!BERNARD MOFFATTIssued by: The Mannin Branch Celtic League19/03/16THE CELTIC LEAGUEThe Celtic League established in 1961 has branches in the six Celtic Countries including our own Mannin branch.
