NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE Earlier this week Yn Conradh Ceilteach/the Celtic League Irish Branch wrote to Liadh Ní Riada MEP expressing their wholehearted support for staging a language strike in the European parliament in protest against what she called the discrimination against her mother tongue within EU institutions and the dismantling of Irish language services by the government in Dublin. The strike began at the beginning of March and will continue until the 14th, these dates coincide with 'Seachtain na Gaeilge' a two week festival held at the beginning of March every year to promote the Irish language. Other Irish MEPs and minority and regional language campaigners and supporters from across Europe backed Ni Riada, and accused the EU and member states of failing to meet their own commitments on protecting linguistic diversity. Below text of letter sent to Ms Riada: An Conradh Ceilteach 33 Céide na Grianóige Ráth Cúil Co. Áth Cliath A Chara Thar ceann An Chonraidh Cheiltigh (Craobh na hÉireann) ba mhaith linn a cur in iúl go duit go n-aithníonn muid d?iarrachtaí le coicís anuas agus tú ar ?Stailc Teanga?. Is scannal é nach bhfuil Rialtas na hÉireann ag gníomhú go sciopaidh chun deireadh a cur leis an maolú. Ach, céard eile a mbeadh muid ag súil leis ó rialtas a cheap Aire Gaeltachta gan Ghaeilge? Molaimid do chuid feachtaisíochta san Eoraip agus tá súil againn go dtagann feabhas ar chúrsaí teanga ann go luath.
