Just an update to say that the petition organised in Scotland by Michael Traill of Edinburgh and promoted on CHANGE.ORG following a decision by Forth Ports to block a Greenpeace ship from berthing in the Port of Leith and forcing the vessel has had to anchor offshore was successful.

The Esperanza, a former Soviet navy ship, which is the largest in the Greenpeace fleet, arrived in the Firth of Forth on Wednesday Nov 9th with plans to stay in the for one week.

The vessel was in Scotland to support plans for a deposit and return scheme on drinks containers that would potentially reduce plastic pollution in the sea no direct action is planned.

Forth Ports, which runs the Port of Leith, told the campaign group it could not dock as the port was already full but a compromise was agreed allowing the vessel to moor off Granton Harbour in the Forth. However following publicity surrounding the petition the Port authority had a change of heart.

It shows petitions can work!
