To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the twinning between Lannion (Brittany) and Caerphilly (Wales) the twinning committee of Lannion-Ploubezre suggested to its Welsh counterpart to present the comparative evolution of both regions between 1850 and 1950 on topics they have in common : ranging from everyday life to economic activities, social and family life, religion, holidays and leisure activities, the beginning of tourism.

In the multimedia library of Lannion, the exhibition « Glances at Britain and Wales, 1850-1950 » presents till August 27th, 34 large panels with nearly 200 photographs from public and private collections. One discovers, thus, the similarities and differences between the two Celtic regions which historical links and friendship have been strengthened by twinnings.

Moreover, until Saturday, August 6th, this exhibition presents typical objects of Breton and Welsh everyday life of the last century. In the room of the choirstalls of the Sainte Anne chapell of Lannion, where the photo exhibition continues, one can admire a unique and exceptional wool tapestry – 51 m long – inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry (in Normandy). It tells the history of Wales through that of the town of Caerphilly.

A 72-page booklet tells the history of the twinning and resumes most of this exhibition. It is written in four languages (Breton, Welsh, English, French) and is offered to visitors for 3 euros.

This exhibition, offered to the inhabitants of Lannion and to visitors is a concrete example of teamwork between the two committees seeking to strengthen their links to the benefit of all.

Let us hope that, with this "flash back", everyone can find a part of his youth memories and also pleasant surprises in the heart of the summer.
