On Tuesday November 22nd, 2011, in Rennes (France), the Brittany Regional Council will be hosting the 2nd meeting of the “Cross-Channel Forum”, which has been set up within the framework of the Franco-British cooperation project called CAMIS (Channel Arc Manche Integrated Strategy). The Cross-Channel Forum provides a platform for dialogue and exchange between marine and coastal stakeholders who are interested in the future of the Channel area. It also aims to highlight issues in the Channel area and opportunities to address these in the future national and European maritime strategies.

The Cross-Channel Forum aims to test a new participatory approach involving all the maritime and coastal stakeholders interested in the future of the Channel area (representatives from national governments, local authorities and European institutions and stakeholders from sectors such as the maritime economy, innovation and research, higher education, environment, etc…).

Its objectives are to identify and analyse the issues in the Channel area, to consult a wide range of stakeholders and organisations about the "Channel area Integrated Maritime Strategy" document but as well to encourage the Channel area stakeholders to unit around a common ambition: reaffirming the identity of the Channel area and having it recognized for its specificities by national and European authorities.

The 1st Cross-Channel Forum meeting, which was held in Exeter in October 2010, has enabled to highlight the specific issues facing the Channel area and to reassert the need for Franco-British co-operations in this area.

The 2nd Forum meeting will be organised around a series of workshops to maximise discussion and gather information from attendees. These exchanges are intended to :

- Discuss the high level objectives of the Integrated Maritime Strategy of the Channel area

- Begin identification and discussion of potential actions relating to integration across the Channel area

- Discuss the potential for a future Cross Channel Forum

- Provide opportunities for participants to network and gain a wider knowledge of the Channel area
